Quantum Computing Fundamentals
Quantum computing represents, in many aspects, a pinnacle in science and technology. Instead of brute-force miniaturization of basic electronic components, quantum computing utilizes an entirely new design architecture, based on fundamental quantum properties, such as superposition, interference and entanglement. It offers the prospect of harnessing nature at a much deeper level than ever before, providing a wealth of new possibilities for information processing and communication. It has the potential to solve extremely challenging problems beyond the capabilities of any conceivable conventional supercomputers. This colloquium is intended to serve as an introduction to quantum computing that is suitable for a general audience.

Quantum walk, efficient implementation and applications
Quantum walk has emerged as a promising framework for developing innovative quantum algorithms. The efficiency of such algorithms hinges on the interference between multiple paths simultaneously traversed by a quantum walker, as well as the inherent interaction and intrinsic entanglement when multiple quantum walkers are involved. As such, quantum walk has become a subject of intense theoretical and experimental studies. A critical challenge in the field is to establish the advantages of algorithms based on quantum walks in comparison to classical computation. To achieve this goal, an efficient decomposition of the prescribed quantum walk operators is essential. In this presentation, I will discuss the overarching design principles used to create efficient quantum circuits tailored to different types of quantum walks across a wide range of undirected and directed graphs. My aim is to provide some insights into the derivation of such decompositions. I will also discuss potential applications, especially in
quantum optimisation.
Sobre Prof. Jingbo Wang:
Prof Wang is Director of the QUISA Research Hub (https://quisa.tech/) hosted at UWA, leading an active group in quantum information, simulation, and algorithm development. Her research team pioneered quantum walk-based algorithms to solve problems of practical importance otherwise intractable, which include complex network analysis, combinatorial optimization, and quantum information processing.
